Over the Rainbow Bridge: Gone but never forgotten and forever in our hearts....

The dog that started me on this wonderful journey of training and performance competition. Lacey came to me from a shelter as a 5 month old pup that was "too much dog" for her previous owner. She had fear issues, expected your attention all of the time, barked incessantly and shut down in training. She was very independent and training her was a challenge! She taught me that prong collars and leash corrections were not necessary to train a dog. In fact, those methods were useless with her. So thanks to Lacey, I set out to learn a more positive approach and discovered clicker training. We attended seminars and workshops together...Susan Garrett's Skills Camp at "Say Yes" in Canada, Shirley Chong's "Well-Mannered Dog workshop" in Iowa and many more. Lacey and I loved this new way of training, the "clicker way" and went on to earn Championship titles in both agility and flyball. She was one of a kind and is very missed every day.

Skippy joined the family as a rescue at about 1 yr of age. I had high hopes for him as my next performance sports dog, however when I brought him into the building for his first training class, he exploded like Cujo at the end of the leash! Any dog looking his way within 20 ft of him sent him into a barking, growling, lunging frenzy. With lots of patience and dedication to desensitization and counter-conditioning, he was able to see that the other dogs were not out to get him. We were able to modify his behavior to a level that allowed us to compete successfully in performance events. Skippy excelled in agility, earning championship titles in USDAA, NADAC, CPE & UKC. He is also a NAFA Flyball Champion. After retirement from active sports, Skippy enjoyed Rally and was learning nosework. We miss that bouncy, happy boy and his smile every single day!
